My name is Edward Reuss and ever since I was young my grandfather would tell me stories by the living room fireplace and I would notice the trance like state that good storytelling would place anyone who listened. When life gets hard and you just need an escape stories take you to another place and tell you about life. On my journey to becoming a director I started on the stage where the audience could see the entirety of a scene or action taking place. When I entered into college I first received my Associates in Video Production and then my Bachelors in Cinema, where I experienced the unique ability film has to show a person individual perspective. Where in theatre the audience see's the whole stage filmmaking places the viewer right into a close up to show an emotion/perspective.

 

It was the knowledge that I acquired from these two individual storytelling art forms that lead me to the emerging art form of VR. Similar to film with the use of cameras and audio equipment it showed traits of the subjective experience from theatre. The convergence of these two mediums helped me develop my own style and technique for the craft of VR storytelling.
